Adding HTTPS for free using CloudFlare

Using HTTPS is rapidly becoming the norm on the Interwebs and adding it to a Pantheon hosted WordPress or Drupal site couldn’t be easier using the CloudFlare free SSL service.

The first thing you’ll need is a free CloudFlare account and host your DNS with them. This was very easy to setup and only takes a few minutes. You also get the benefits of their excellent CDN and security.

Once that’s all done, you just need to follow the instructions from Pantheon to setup SSL. For extra measure, I added a snippet to my wp-config.php that redirects all traffic to HTTPS automatically.

Total time taken? Less than 10 minutes. Nice.
